A local policeman got an eyeful when he came across twin sisters Angela and Deborah Joyce frolicking naked by an Ayia Napa hotel swimming pool at dawn, a Larnaca court heard yesterday.
The policeman caught the two British tourists, from Leicester, streaking at 5 a.m. during his regular patrol of the holiday resort. He intervened to cover up the 22-year-olds and then arrested them, informing the twins they had breached public decency laws.
The two were fined £113 each after pleading guilty to carrying out an indecent act.
"We did nothing to be arrested for," Angela Joyce said afterwards. "We were only having a bit of fun; we didn't harm anyone," Deborah Joyce added. There were, reportedly, no complaints from hotel guests.
This July and August alone, eight British tourists - most of them male - have been fined for streaking through Ayia Napa. The clampdown on nudity follows claims in the local media that Ayia Napa police were turning a blind eye to rowdy behaviour and even public lovemaking by drunken young tourists.
