Gardaí investigating the murder of Melanie McCarthy McNamara (16) in Tallaght have made two arrests.
A teenager and man in his early 20s, believed to be the chief suspects, were detained in Athy, Co Kildare, following a raid on an apartment in the town. They are being held in Tallaght Garda station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
Ms McCarthy McNamara was in a car with three men outside a house on Brookview Way on February 7th when a black SUV pulled alongside and one of the occupants opened fire, fatally wounding the teenager in the head.
Her friends drove her at speed to Tallaght hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Gardaí believe the gunman was trying to shoot a man known to Ms McCarthy McNamara but fatally wounded the girl instead.
