An explosion killed two Britons when it destroyed their bullet-proof vehicle near an entrance to coalition headquarters in Baghdad today.

At least two others were injured, one of whom is thought to be in a serious condition.

Security sources in the Iraqi capital said the car belonged to a private security company and was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.

American soldiers tried to pull the men from the shattered car, and quickly sealed off the area, according to a witness. The blast happened about 50 yards from the "Assassins Gate" one of the main entrances to the Green Zone, a specially guarded zone where occupation forces live and work.
