Two businesses were closed last month over food safety concerns, according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).
Three enforcement notices were served on food businesses in March.
Both a closure order and a prohibition order were served by the FSAI on ECU Meats Limited, trading as International Meat and Livestock, Hazelby House, Rathfeigh, Tara, Co Meath, for breaches of food safety legislation.
In addition, environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive served a closure order on the Central Supermarket, 8-9 Moore Street (ground floor only), Dublin 1.
The FSAI said closure orders are served when inspectors believe there is, or is likely to be, a "grave and immediate danger to public health".
A prohibition order is issued if activities such as the processing, disposal, manufacturing, storage, distribution or selling of food involve a serious risk to public health from a particular product, batch, class or item of food.
Dr John O'Brien, chief executive, FSAI, said: "We are urging all food businesses to adhere to best food safety and hygiene practices. Enforcement officers only serve orders where they believe there are serious legal infringements and standards have fallen so low that the public's health has been put at risk.
"While the number of closures each month remains small, the fact that there are any at all is not helping to build confidence in the safety of Irish food," he said.
"Consumers need to have confidence in the entire food chain. A food safety management plan is not difficult to implement and it is disappointing that the same easily preventable faults are continuing to contribute to closures month on month," he added.
