A 48-YEAR-OLD man and a 41-year-old woman were yesterday remanded on bail after they were charged with organising prostitution and operating brothels in Cork city following an investigation by local gardaí and the Criminal Assets Bureau.

Robert Healy, Mervue Lawn, Ballyvolane, Cork, was charged with six counts of organising prostitution and six counts of keeping a brothel at premises on Grafton Street and John Street in Cork in November 2006.

Julieanne Gibson, Springvale, Old Youghal Road, was charged with 21 counts of organising prostitution and 21 counts of keeping a brothel at the same premises over an 18-month period from January 2006.

Insp Declan O’Sullivan gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in relation to Mr Healy and told Cork District Court that the accused made no reply to any of the charges after they were put to him. Insp O’Sullivan said gardaí had no objection to bail for Mr Healy once a number of conditions were attached including that he allow gardaí retain his passport, that he remain within the jurisdiction and neither call nor frequent either of the premises at Grafton Street or John Street.

Sgt Corcoran said gardaí had no objection to bail for Ms Gibson once she agreed to abide by certain conditions.

These included that she would stay away from both the premises at Grafton Street including the Jade Winters adult shop and the John Street premises and that she would have no contact directly or indirectly with anyone at either premises.

Judge Con O’Leary granted both accused bail and to appear again at Cork District Court on November 11th.
