Two nineteen-year-old men have been charged with the possession of an assault rifle for unlawful purposes at a special sitting of Limerick District Court.

Mr Ross Cantillon with an address in the St Mary's Park area of the city and Mr Roy Woodland from Thomandgate both denied the charges.

Both were charged with having a Kalashnikov AK47 assault rifle in Moyross on Friday August 23rd. They were arrested as part of an investigation into a shooting incident in the city over the weekend.

The men were remanded in custody until Wednesday when a full bail application will be heard.
