Police said the man climbed into the Volkswagen Passat while the father of one of the children was in a shop on Ardoyne Avenue, around 9am.

When the man returned he found the suspect sitting in the back alongside his daughter and her friend. He was then ordered to drive to the Flax Centre on Ardoyne Road, where his wife works.

The woman was called outside and told to remove a sum of cash from the post office. During the delay the man was forced to drive around the area while the gunman remained in the back with the children.
