The capsized yacht towed into Castletownbere, Co Cork, on Monday night is the Welsh Dragon, missing since last November.

There was no trace, however, of the two Dutch crew - Jan-Jaap Toxopeus (17) and Mr Hendrick Pieter Bart (37).

The two set out for the Netherlands from south Carolina on October 15th and were last heard from on November 4th about 350 miles north of the Azores. Both men were experienced ocean sailors. The teenager had done a three year voyage with his parents. They arrived in Castletownbere several days ago after hearing an upturned yacht had been seen off the Irish coast.

The capsized yacht had been spotted two weeks earlier and reported to the Naval Service.

The L.E. Emer was sent to investigate and confirmed it was the Welsh Dragon. The divers couldn't get inside, however, because of bad weather. A more thorough inspection was carried out a week later but no bodies were found.

The Naval Service towed the yacht for some distance then the yacht owners got a salvage company to tow it into Castownbere. Gardaí have compiled a file for Interpol about the missing men with their DNA, dental records, and photographs.

Sgt Fachna O'Donovan said finding the yacht at least meant "closure" for the families.
