Two people were killed this morning in a collision on the M1 Dublin to Belfast motorway.

Two people were killed this morning in a collision on the M1 Dublin to Belfast motorway.

A man (22) and a girl (17) were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Milltown, Co Louth.

The vehicle in which they were travelling left the road and collided with a fence at 4.30am between junctions 15 and 16 on the southbound lane of the M1.

There were no other occupants in the car and no-one else was injured in the crash.

The scene of the crash remains closed pending a technical examination and diversions are in place via the old N1.
