Gardai in Co Cork have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of a young man whom they believed died from smoke inhalation in a fire in an apartment in Cobh in the early hours of yesterday morning.
A garda technical expert is to forensically examine the scene later today but an initial examination suggested that there was nothing suspicious about the death of the man in his 20s.
The body was removed to Cork University Hospital this morning where gardai hope a post-mortem examination later today will confirm the cause of death.
In Dublin, a 44-year-old woman died in a fire at Woodhazel Terrace in Ballymun that broke out at about 7.30am.
