One was later released without charge yesterday and today police said another suspect had been released and a file sent to the Public Prosecution Service.

The gun attack is the latest in a vicious turf war between the LVF and the rival Ulster Volunteer Force. Three men have been shot dead since the power-struggle over drugs and racketeering re-erupted last month.

Sunday's shooting happened after LVF men went into the Glenside but according to loyalist sources were thwarted in their attack by UVF members who opened fire first.

After the victim was brought to the Mater a crowd of up to 20 loyalists gathered outside but were held back by police. He was later transferred across Belfast to the Royal Victoria Hospital where his condition was described as serious.
