A jury heard yesterday how murdered schoolgirl Mary-Ann Leneghan and her friend were kidnapped and taken to a hotel where they were raped.

The pair were attacked with knives and a metal pole in a hotel, near Prospect Park, Reading, Berkshire, in May last year.

Reading Crown Court heard boiling water was thrown over Mary-Ann and her 19-year-old friend, who cannot be named for legal reasons. Mary-Ann (16), whose father emigrated from Co Mayo in the 1970s, was found dead, her body riddled with stab wounds in Prospect Park on the morning of May 7th last year.

Her friend, who gave evidence yesterday, was shot in the head but survived.

She recalled the afternoon when she and Mary-Ann were bundled into the boot of a vehicle by a gang of men.

They knew two of the men as Redz and "J". Earlier the court heard Mary-Ann had become friends with a man called Redz, but stopped seeing him a month before the alleged abduction.

Richard Latham QC, prosecuting, told the jury this week that Adrian Thomas (20) was also known by the nickname Redz.

The witness said they were taken to a hotel room where she was punched and kicked in the face by J and recalled being hit with a metal bar.

While being forced to perform oral sex on one man she said she heard sounds from the bathroom where Mary-Ann had been taken and the men appeared to be taking it in turns to rape her.

The girl told the court: "Throughout this whole ordeal we were told 'You are not going home, we are going to kill you'."

Londoners Adrian Thomas, of Battersea; Llewellyn Adams (24) of Balham; Jamaile (22) and Joshua Morally (23), also of Balham; Michael Johnson (19), of Southfields and Indrit Krasniqi (18) of Chiswick, all deny charges of murder, attempted murder, rape and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Joshua Morally has admitted two charges of kidnap but the other five defendants deny the offence. - (PA)
