Two people were gored and others suffered bumps and bruises today as wet weather marked the third day of Pamplona's renowned bull-running festival, Spanish health officials said.

The tally of injured was low given the slippery surface of the streets - which saw many of those running alongside the bulls lose their balance. One of the bulky animals fell over and had difficulty getting up again.

The bull run is the daily highlight of Pamplona's nine-day San Fermin festival.

The bulls set off each morning on a half-mile stampede from a corral to an outdoor arena where they are killed by matadors later in the day.

The last time a person died was in 1995, when a 22-year-old American was fatally gored.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors pack into Pamplona for the festival - many of them partying all night ahead of the morning run.

The San Fermin fiesta was immortalised in Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises.
