Two Portuguese men involved in an incident aboard an aircraft about to depart from Dublin Airport will spend Christmas in jail, a judge decided yesterday.
At Dublin District Court, Nuno Cataluna (26) and Mario Correira (21), both from Lisbon, were remanded in custody for a week after Judge Joseph Mangan said he wanted to consider their case before imposing sentence. They pleaded guilty to causing a breach of the peace.
The court heard they were involved in an incident on a Lisbon-bound aircraft as it was about to take off on Wednesday. Correira caused a disturbance and the captain decided to turn back just before take-off. Gardai arrived and, as Correira was being removed, Cataluna intervened and was arrested as well. Both men had been working in the Republic.
