Stabbing victim Mr Noel Kearney crawled to a neighbour's garden and banged on their car in a desperate attempt to get help before he died, it emerged yesterday.
Mr Kearney (36) died after being stabbed in the neck outside his home at Ballygall Parade, Finglas, Dublin, shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday night.
A post mortem is expected to show that he died from wounds to his throat inflicted by a broken bottle but it is thought a knife may also have been used.
Witnesses have told gardaí there was a brief dispute between the victim and two other men outside the house before the stabbing. Gardaí later arrested two men and were questioning them at Finglas Garda Station last night. A file is to be sent to the DPP.
Local Sinn Féin councillor, Mr Dessie Ellis, was visiting his girlfriend's home opposite the scene when he was alerted by the arriving garda cars and ambulance.
"We didn't hear anything before that. It must have happened very quickly. It was an awful scene. Everyone is very shocked. I don't think anyone on the road slept last night."
Mr Kearney, a single man, is believed to have had an argument with one of his attackers the previous week.
Rachel Donnelly adds: London Metropolitan Police are "keeping an open mind" about the motive in the killing of a man from Newcastle, Co Limerick, who was stabbed on Sunday morning.
Mr Anthony Kevin O'Brien was discovered lying injured in a street in Walworth, London, at about 3 a.m. and taken to St Thomas's Hospital where he died from a stab wound. Scotland Yard said a fight had broken out between two groups of men in a pub on Saturday night close to where Mr O'Brien was found. The men were asked to leave and the fight continued outside.
