The men were arrested following an incident outside a bar in the city, police said.

Officers received reports of a man being verbally and physically abused outside the Strand Road premises just before 3am.

The apparent assault is the latest in a series of attacks on gays and lesbians in the city.

A support group has warned in the past that it is only a matter of time before someone is killed in a homophobic attack in the city.

Police investigating the latest incident have urged any witnesses to contact detectives on 0845 600 8000.
