Two men were being questioned by gardaí last night in connection with a murder in Co Louth.
The body of a 43-year-old local man was discovered after gardaí were called to a house at Woodview Terrace on the Castletown Road in Dundalk around 12.30am yesterday.
Two men aged 37 and 36 were arrested in the centre of the town early yesterday morning.
They were taken to Dundalk Garda Station for questioning. However, one of them was later taken to hospital in Dublin for treatment for an eye injury sustained prior to being taken into custody.
He later returned to Dundalk Garda Station and his period of detention was extended yesterday evening.
The second man was brought to the station for questioning.He is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act on suspicion of withholding information about the death.
Gardaí were initially treating the death as suspicious but formally launched a murder investigation last night after they received the results of a post mortem examination carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Michael Curtis at Louth County Hospital.
Detectives investigating the death have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
They want to hear from anyone who was in the Castletown Road area between 2pm on Thursday and 1am on Friday.They can be contacted at Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9335577.
Local people have expressed shock at the death, saying the victim was an "inoffensive, happy go lucky fella".
