Two men have been arrested following the seizure of mephedrone and herbal cannabis in Dublin.
A quantity of mephedrone and herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €60,000 was discovered in a joint operation between the gardaí and the Revenue's Customs Service.
The mephedrone was imported through Dublin airport in a parcel sent from China.
Mephedrone was among a number of so-called "legal highs" which were recently outlawed under the Criminal Justice (Psychoactive Substances) Bill 2010.
One Irishman and a Brazilian national were arrested under Section Two of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 and are being held at Kevin Street Garda station.
In a separate incident involving Revenue Customs Service officers, 320,000 cigarettes were seized today in Monaghan.
The cigarettes have a potential retail value of €140,000 and a potential loss to the exchequer of €121,000.
One individual has been questioned about the seizure and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
