Two held over Limerick murders

Two people remained in custody tonight being questioned in connection with murders in Limerick.

Two people remained in custody tonight being questioned in connection with murders in Limerick.

Gardaí investigating the murders of James Cronin and Shane Geoghegan arrested a 25-year-old man at Wheatfield prison in Dublin at around 10.30am this morning. He is being detained at Lucan Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act which means he can be held for up to 24 hours.

Separately, a 20-year-old was arrested in Limerick at about 2pm, and is being held in Roxboro Road Garda station.

James Cronin from Janesboro was found in a shallow grave near Caledonian Park in April 2008. He had been shot in the head.

Shane Geoghegan was shot dead near his home in Kilteragh, Dooradoyle in November last year in a case of mistaken identity.

Two people arrested yesterday in connection with the murder investigations were released from custody without charge,and returned to Wheatfield Prison.
