Two men are being detained in Co Tipperary in connection with a €100,000 drug seizure.

The men, aged 45 and 31, were arrested near Thurles yesterday as part of an operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the Tipperary region.

Gardaí attempted to stop the car in which the men were travelling at Pouldine at about 2.30pm but it drove on. The car was eventually stopped a short distance away on a flyover of the M8 Dublin-Cork motorway.

The 45-year-old man was arrested in the car while the 31-year-old attempted to flee the scene on foot but was arrested after a short chase.

Quantities of cannabis resin and cocaine valued at a combined €100,000 were found in the car.

The men are being held under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act at Thurles Garda station.
