Two people are in custody following an incident at a house in Westport, Co Mayo, in the early hours of this morning.
A garda spokesman refused to confirm that a garda was held during a two-hour siege at the house.
Gardaí were called to a house at Pearse Terrace shortly after 2.30am. Six adults and three children were present at the house at the time.
According to local reports, four gardai responded to the call and on arrival at the house two adults, a male and a female, and a two month old infant, were reportedly held against their will in a room of the house, and a garda remained in the room throughout the incident.
Some two hours later and following incidents of public order and assault at the house, gardaí said two males in their late teens were arrested and are currently being detained at Westport Garda Station under Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act.
A couple in their late teens and their 2 month old son taken to Mayo General Hospital and later transferred to University College Hospital in Galway for treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.
The female has a serious facial injury and the male and baby were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Another woman in her early 20s was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The HSE have been notified regarding the incident.
