Israeli helicopters fired three missiles into Gaza City this evening, wounding at least two people, hours after Palestinian militants killed five Jewish settlers in the territory, witnesses said.
The missiles hit a 12-story building known as the Palestine Tower and housing a radio station of the main militant faction Hamas.
The air attack occurred as members of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's party were voting in an internal referendum on his plan to withdraw settlers from the Gaza Strip in a strategy of "disengagement" from conflict with Palestinians.
Pre-referendum polls indicated Sharon's plan would be defeated by rank-and-file in the right-wing party.
