Two men will appear in court today charged in connection with the seizure of cannabis plants worth an estimated €490,000 in Co Leitrim.

Gardaí from the divisional drugs unit in Carrick-on-Shannon searched a house in the Kilclare area at about 3.30pm on Monday where cannabis plants worth an estimated €240,000 were seized.

A 44-year-old man was arrested and was held at Manorhamilton Garda station under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

In a separate investigation, cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €250,000 were seized at a premises in the Aughamore area of Carrick-on-Shannon on Monday.

A 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was detained at Carrick-on-Shannon Garda station under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Two men will appear before Donegal town District Court at 10.30am this morning, a Garda spokesman said.
