Two brothers appeared before court today charged in connection with the murder of a man in Limerick.

Ger McMahon (43), known locally as Ger Troy, from Raheen Square, Limerick, was found with multiple stab wounds on the steps of a house at Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, at about 12.30am on Wednesday by an ambulance crew.

He was pronounced dead a short time later in hospital in the early hours of January 18th.

Sean Flanagan, (26), of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, Limerick appeared before Limerick District Court this morning charged with Mr McMahon’s murder.

Ian Flanagan (22), is charged with impeding the Garda investigation into the murder.

Det Gda Michael Murphy told the court he arrested Sean Flanagan on January 20th at 11.35pm and later charged him with murder. He said the accused made no reply when cautioned at Roxboro Road Garda station.

Judge Eamon O’Brien granted Sean Flanagan free legal aid. There was no application for bail and Mr Flanagan was remanded in custody to appear before the court again via video link on January 30th.

Gda Deirdre Foley, Roxboro Road gardaí, told the court she arrested Ian Flanagan, of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, Limerick, on January 20th at 11.35pm and later charged him with impeding the investigation into Mr McMahon’s murder.

Judge O’Brien remanded Ian Flanagan in custody to appear before the court again on January 30th, when it is expected a bail application will be heard.
