Businesses, Garda, Dublin City Council and transport services have all fed into two of Dublin’s districts being awarded one of the first Purple Flag awards in the country, a conference heard yesterday.
Two areas in the capital – one stretching from Clarendon Street to South Great George’s Street, the other the Dame district (the block between Dame Street and St Stephen’s Green) – were awarded Purple Flags earlier this month, marking excellence in the management of a town or city centre area between 5pm and 5am.
Richard Guiney, chief executive of Dublin City Business Improvement District, said the award was the culmination of the efforts of a number of agencies working together to improve the experience of those who socialise in the capital’s city centre.
