Two key Tories call for Welsh Assembly

Cardiff - Two leading Welsh Conservatives yesterday openly challenged their party's opposition to a Welsh Assembly. Mr Phil Pedley, former national chairman of the Young Conservatives, and the former MEP, Mr Peter Price, backed the "Yes" campaign and urged other Tories to keep their options open instead of attacking devolution.

Mr Pedley said Tories should seize the opportunity of Proportional Representation to gain seats on the elected assembly and give their party a strong voice in Welsh politics. He also welcomed the reform it would bring of the quango system.
