Gardaí are investigating two separate deaths in Dundrum, Co Dublin, and Slane, Co Meath.

Two separate investigations have also begun into a crash that left four people, including two gardaí, injured at the Red Cow roundabout off the M50 in west Dublin on Saturday.

The latest death took place at 2.45am yesterday when a young man was hit by a car at Clonard Lawns, Dundrum, Dublin.

The 28-year-old was taken by ambulance to St Vincent’s hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Forensic investigators were at the scene for several hours yesterday and the road was closed.

Gardaí in Navan, Co Meath, are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on a minor road at Grangegeeth, Slane, Co Meath, on Saturday.

Shortly before midnight, gardaí were called to Grangegeeth following a collision between a car and a van at a crossroad junction.

The 27-year-old male driver of the car sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the van, a 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact gardaí in Navan on 046-9079930.

The deaths brought to 202 the number of people killed on the State’s roads since the beginning of the year. The number of people killed is about 41 down on the similar period last year.

Gardaí in Clondalkin, Dublin, have begun an investigation into the crash in west Dublin on Saturday and the Garda Ombudsman Commission is carrying out its own inquiry.

A patrol car carrying a male and female garda stopped to investigate what appeared to be an abandoned vehicle on the Red Cow junction at 3am.

However, before they had left their own vehicle they were hit by another car.

Both gardaí were treated for minor injuries but discharged from hospital a short time later.

The driver of the car that hit the Garda car also suffered injuries and was being treated in hospital.

His front seat passenger sustained serious head injuries and remained in hospital in a critical condition.

The scene of the crash was sealed off and a full technical examination was carried out by gardaí.

Gardaí in Cavan are seeking information on a crash at Drumgora, Ballyjamesduff, which left two young men seriously injured early on Friday morning.

Two males aged 19 and 18 in one of the cars were seriously injured and taken to Cavan General Hospital, before being transferred to Dublin hospitals.

Their conditions were described as “critical but stable”.
