A man and a woman in their early 20s were killed and six others injured when the van in which they were travelling crashed in Co Tipperary early yesterday.

The two people who died were Mr Tate Croom-Carroll (24), of Abbey Street and Ms Karen Houlihan (20), of Bengurah Square, Cahir, Co Tipperary.

The accident happened on the Cahir road near Cashel at an area known as Knock-saint-lour after 4.00 a.m. The van, which was travelling towards Cahir, appears to have gone out of control and hit a wall. Mr Croom-Carroll and Ms Houlihan were pronounced dead at the scene. All the occupants were in their late teens or early 20s.

The six injured, three men and three women, were taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Cashel where their condition was said to be stable.
