Gardaí are investigating the deaths of two people injured in knife attacks in Dublin and Galway last night.
A man in his early 30s died following an incident on Sarsfield Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 at about 9.15pm.
Gardaí were called to the scene of an assault and discovered his body. The man was taken to St James' Hospital with serious injuries but died a short time later.
Four men and four women all aged in their 20s were arrested in connection with the assault and are being detained at Garda stations in the west city under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified. Sarsfield Road was closed to traffic this morning and diversions were in place.
In Galway, a woman in her 30s has been arrested following the discovery of a man's body in an apartment complex at Upper Salthill.
The discovery was made at about 10.30pm last night. The victim, who was in his 50s, was found injured on a veranda. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
The woman, found in a distressed state in the immediate area, is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Galway Garda station.
