Two people were killed and seven others injured in two separate car crashes yesterday evening.

Two people were killed and seven others injured in two separate car crashes yesterday evening.

An 18-year-old woman died after a two-car collision in Co Kerry. She was named by gardaí this afternoon as Breda Brosnan, from Rockfield, Faha, Killarney.

The crash happened at around  7.15 p.m. at Iron Mills, Killarney, on the road to Cork. Ms Brosnan was a front seat passenger in one of the cars.

Three other people were brought to Tralee General Hospital for treatment. Two have since been discharged. The condition of the third, a male, is described as "comfortable".

Half an hour later, two cars collided at Rathellen, Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow. A 17-year-old man, a passenger in one of the cars, was killed.

Four others were brought to St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, where their condition is unknown.

The dead man was named as Paul Donoghue, from Eastwood, Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow.

Meanwhile, a 73-year-old man died yesterday afternoon from the injuries he sustained in a crash on Friday. The crash between a truck and a car happened at Kitestown, Crossabeg, Co Wexford on the Ferrycarrig to Oylegate Road.

He was named by gardai as Mr Gerard Dawson, from Westgate Tavern, Wexford Town.
