Two males in court over Wexford burglary

Pair appear in court after car speeds past Garda checkpoint

Two males were due in court this evening charged in connection with a burglary in the early hours this morning in Bunclody, Co Wexford.

The two were arrested in relation to the burglary of a shop in the town.

The 37-year-old and 17-year-old were detained after the car in which they were travelling, driven by the older male, sped past a Garda checkpoint after they were signalled to stop.

They were detained near Monread Road, Naas, Co Kildare. Two other male passengers escaped through fields nearby.

Gardaí searched the car and found a large amount of cigarettes, a sledge hammer, an angle grinder, two-way radios, jemmy bars and balaclavas.

The two men were detained at Newbridge Garda station and were to appear at Naas District Court.

The arrests were carried out as part of Operation Fiacla, which aims to disrupt and prevent mobile and organised criminal groups from committing offences.
