Two men from Portadown were charged at Craigavon Magistrates Court yesterday with possessing two balaclavas, a pick axe handle, two pairs of gloves and a newspaper article on September 6th.

Mr James Ronald Buchanan (29), unemployed, Corcrain Drive, and Mr Norman Stevenson (26), a factory worker, of Hartfield Square, were accused of having the items for an unknown purpose in circumstances giving rise to a reasonable suspicion that they were connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

On the application of an RUC inspector, both defendants were remanded in custody until September 25th.
