The mother of five, who was a daily Mass-goer and a minister of the Eucharist in the local St Dominic's Church, had lived with her husband, Dominic, and children in the area for about 30 years.

Mrs Casey's husband, son and two daughters were escorted to and from the courthouse by gardaí.

There were scuffles between the media and some family members of the accused, who tried to prevent cameramen filming.

The two men were remanded in custody to appear again in court next week.

Three other people who were arrested in connection with the murder have been released by police. Files relating to their cases are due to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
