Two men aged 61 and 58 were arrested yesterday in connection with the Official IRA murder of RUC inspector Bill Elliott in Rathcoole in north Belfast in 1974.
The case was reopened in October by the PSNI after a review by the Historical Enquiries Team. Insp Elliott (48) was shot when he went to investigate a bank robbery. Two men were convicted of involvement, including the writer Ronan Bennett, who was later acquitted.
