Two men are in seriously ill in hospital after a double shooting in Dublin this evening.

Gardaí said both men were injured in the incident on Knocknarea Road, Drimnagh at approximately 4.50pm.

"Two men were servicing a vehicle in a driveway when a moped with two men on board approached them," a spokeswoman said.

"The pillion passenger fired a number of shots at the two men." One of the men was shot in the chest while the other received a leg injury.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw the two men on the motorcycle between 4.50 and 6pm to come forward. They were wearing blacked out helmets.

The condition of the victims, who were admitted to St James's Hospital, was described as "serious".

In an earlier incident in the capital, a 25-year-old man was shot in the chest in Kimmage. A Garda spokeswoman said gardaí received a call to a house at an address in St Martin's Park shortly after 10pm last night.

At the scene, gardaí found a man who was suffering from a pellet wound to the chest. The victim described his attacker and said he had been shot by a shotgun. The man was then taken by ambulance to St James's Hospital.

Gardaí at Sundrive Road in Dublin are investigating both inicidents.
