TWO men were given prison sentences at Bagenalstown District Court by Judge Donal O Buachalla yesterday for offences involving animals.
James Jordan, of Bawnleith, Leighlinbridge, Carlow, had pleaded guilty to possessing a 500ml container of clenbuterol and a hormone implant cartridge on August 4th, 1993, at his home.
Judge O Buachalla sentenced him to two months in prison and fined him £1,000 for possessing clenbuterol, commonly known as angel dust. He fined him a further £1,000 for possessing the hormone cartridge.
In the second case the judge imposed a one month sentence on George Darcy, who had pleaded guilty to seven charges involving the illegal movement of cattle which were restricted under the Animal Remedies Act.
Two of the charges related to a period between April and September 1993 on land which Darcy, of Conway Park, Bagenalstown, had rented.
Both men were granted bail pending appeals.
