Two men killed in separate crashes

Two men have been killed and another two seriously injured in two crashes in Co Tipperary and Co Kildare.

One man (28) was killed and another seriously injured in a multiple-vehicle collision outside Roscrea at around 8am today.

It is understood the collision involved three trucks and a number of parked cars on the Roscrea-to-Templemore road (N62) at Ashmere, which is expected to stay closed for most of the day.

The two other truck drivers were removed from the scene to Midwest General Hospital, Nenagh. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A garda spokesman said they would like to talk to the driver of an articulated truck with a side curtains (possibly red) which passed the location at about the time of the crash. He said the truck curtain had letters on the side, possibly containing the letters FS.

Gardai said they would also like to speak with the driver of a white van stopped at the scene just after the crash, the driver put on his hazard warning lights and shortly afterwards drove off in the direction of Roscrea.

In Co Kildare, a man died after a hit-and-run collision while walking at Derrinturn near Carbury at around 8.30pm yesterday.

He was taken to Naas General Hospital but died shortly after 3am.

Gardaí later named the victim as Timothy Duffy (51) of Clonkeen, Carbury.

Anyone who was in the Derrinturn area between 8pm and 9pm or anyone who saw a man walking on the road on the Edenderry side of Derrinturn have been asked to contact gardaí them at Kildare Garda Station on 045 527730.
