Indonesian police arrested two more suspects in the Bali bombings, including the man they believed parked the explosives-laden minivan in the worst-hit area, local radio this morning.
Three bombs exploded on the island resort on October 12th last year with the blast from the car-bomb causing the worst damage and killed nearly 200 people, mostly foreign tourists, at the Kuta nightclub strip.
The chief of the investigating team said the suspects were caught last night on a remote islet near Kalimantan, on the Indonesian side of Borneo island.
"Ali Imron is suspected to have brought the minivan to Bali and also believed to have been involved in the planning. He was also the one whom we suspect parked the car in front of the Sari Club. He was hiding on that isle," he said.
"We arrested him along with several other people but the most important one was Mubarok whom we suspect to be a member of the (bombing) group and a fugitive in our case," he said, adding that the police were hunting for about nine more suspects.
Police said Mubarok was involved in the robberies of gold shops in western Java, said to be one of the financial sources of the bombing operation.
Imron is the younger brother of Amrozi, the first suspect arrested. Amrozi would be the first to take the stand when the trials over the bombings start next month.
Indonesia has already arrested more than 20 Indonesians over direct and indirect links to the incident. Many have ties to Jemaah Islamiah, a regional Muslim militant group.
