Gardaí have arrested two people in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Blanchardstown last night.

A man and a woman were held for questioning after a man, who was named locally as Darragh McCormack, 22, was fatally injured after he left his home at Whitestown Park.

It is believed he was shot in the back around 9.30pm yesterday by one of two attackers who came up behind him on foot as he walked away from his home.

The man and woman are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry."

The man was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital last night where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí appealed for anyone who was in the area of the shooting between 9pm and 10pm yesterday to contact them.

The area of the shooting was sealed off for technical technical examination.
