Gardai seized 13 guns and drugs during the search of a house in Co Meath last night.

Detectives in Navan carried out the search in the town yesterday afternoon and arrested two men in their late 20s.

“In the course of the search gardai recovered 12 shotguns, one high powered rifle, and a quantity of what is believed to be cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €80,000 pending analysis,” a Garda spokesman said.

The two men are being questioned under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in Navan Garda Station.

The spokesman said he could not confirm reports that the guns seizure may be related to the theft of 30 firearms in Co Tipperary earlier this month.

They were taken during an armed raid on the home of a gun dealer in the early hours of January 9th. The licensed firearms dealer and his partner were ambushed by an armed gang after returning to their home after a night's socialising.

The couple were tied up along with a 22-year-old woman and an elderly man before the gang raided a store holding the weapons.

The gang then drove off in the family car with some 30 guns. The haul included at least two handguns, along with a larger quantity of rifles and shotguns.
