Two teenagers were being held by gardaí in Dublin yesterday after a Brazilian-born boy said he was kidnapped, humiliated and shot in the eye in Tallaght last Wednesday.
Gilmar Mandiangu (14), whose family has lived in Tallaght for the past nine years, required hospital treatment after being shot with a pellet gun at close range.
The alleged ordeal took place after Gilmar, who had been playing football on the street near his home, was lured into a neighbour's house. Once inside, the door was locked behind him and he was threatened by the pellet gun. The victim said one of the attackers recorded the incident on his camera phone.
Gilmar's sister Lariche told RTÉ News the boy was first brought into the sittingroom and then told to make tea. "And he [ an attacker] said, 'while you're at it, you might as well scrub the dishes . . . If you don't scrub the dishes, I'm going to shoot you'."
She said that when he refused, he was told to kiss his captor's shoes. "And Gilmar goes, 'no, I'm not kissing your shoes', so then he pointed the gun in his eye and shot him." She added: "One of the lads had a camera phone and was recording all of this, so it must have been just a big joke to them."
After the incident was reported, gardaí carried out door-to-door inquiries. A spokesman said two youths were being held at Tallaght Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for up to 72 hours. A file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
