Two men arrested after the discovery of a pipe-bomb in Dublin this morning are being questioned about the activities of the dissident republican group the Continuity IRA.
The two were arrested in the north of the city early this morning after the device was found under a van in Belcamp Crescent, Clonshaugh, shortly after midnight.
An Army bomb disposal unit removed the suspected explosive device and made it safe. A number of homes were evacuated before the all-clear was declared at about 4.30 a.m.
The men were taken to Coolock and Santry Garda Stations under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
A statement issed by the Garda Press Office at lunchtime said: "Gardaí are confirming that the two men detained at Santry and Coolock Garda Stations who are being questioned about the discovery of a pipe-bomb at Belcamp Crescent overnight are, in addition, being questioned in relation to Continuity IRA activities."
