Two people are still being questioned in Northern Ireland about the alleged abduction of a mother and child.

The woman and her four-year-old son were taken hostage from their home in Killough, Co Down, on Wednesday and held for 12 hours in a vacant house in south Belfast.

The woman's partner who is employed by a financial institution, was told to get cash - believed to be Stg£200,000 (€254,000) - and leave it at a specified point in Belfast.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland was contacted after the woman freed herself and her son later that evening.

They had been held in the Ravenhill area and were unhurt but shaken.

A man and a woman were arrested yesterday in connection with the incident.
