Two people have been seriously injured in a Dublin city apartment fire.

Two people have been seriously injured in a Dublin city apartment fire.

Five units of Dublin Fire Brigade  tackled the fire at George's Hill Apartments, Halston Street in Dublin 7 after the alarm was raised by a security guard at 9.45pm last night.

A man, believed to be in his 60s,  and a woman (54) were taken to the Mater hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

The man is understood to be in a serious but stable condition. The woman was transferred to St James's Hospital, where she is said to be in a critical condition.

The cause of the fire has yet to be established. A number of apartments in the complex were evacuated.
