Two sisters killed in Galway crash named

Gardaí have named the two sisters who were killed when their car collided with a truck in north Galway yesterday.

They were Ms Anne Connell (35) and her sister Bridget (32) from Kilnappa, outside Dunmore.

The crash happened on the Tuam Road on the outskirts of Dunmore at around 5.00 p.m. It is believed the women's car collided head-on with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction as they were overtaking another vehicle. Driving conditions were said to be wet and very poor at the time.

The truck driver was unhurt but was treated for shock. The bodies of the sisters were cut from the wreckage of their car by the local fire brigade.

Elsewhere, gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a serious crash between a car and a truck on the Blessington road near Brittas, Co Dublin, yesterday morning. There were no deaths.
