A 23-year-old male motorcyclist was killed at about 2.30am yesterday after his vehicle crashed into a ditch at Killany, Louth.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Louth County Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Gardaí at Bailieboro, Co Cavan, are investigating a fatal hit-and- run early on Saturday. A 19-year- old female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at Burrenrea, on the Kells side of Virginia at about 3.50am. Gardaí want to talk to a man who telephoned Bailieboro Garda station shortly before 4am.

Gardaí there have asked anyone who may have information to contact them at (042) 969 4570, at the Garda confidential phone line 1800 666 111, or at any Garda station.

Gardaí have also sought the public’s help in investigating a crash at Cushintown, Duleek, Co Meath, at 10.10am on Saturday. A white Toyota Yaris collided with an oil tanker and both drivers were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was seriously injured while the truck driver, a man in his 50s, sustained less serious injuries. Anyone who may have information has been asked to contact Ashbourne Garda station at (01) 801 0600.

Meanwhile, gardaí have named the man killed in Friday’s crash at Tulla, Co Clare. He was Patrick Meehan (70), of O’Callaghan’s Mills, Co Clare.
