Two years in jail for graves for sale fraud

A sex abuser who stole more than €20,000 in a “graves for sale” scam has been jailed for two years

A sex abuser who stole more than €20,000 in a “graves for sale” scam has been jailed for two years. At Ennis Circuit Court, Judge Carroll Moran imposed the sentence on Seán Leamy (61), Main Street, Tulla, for defrauding Clare County Council of €20,339 over 10 years.

At the same court last May, Judge Moran imposed a six-year jail term on Leamy for sexually abusing five boys over 27 years.

It emerged in court yesterday that while Leamy continued his sexual abuse, he was also stealing from the council by not passing on to the local authority grave-plot fees he was receiving from grieving families.

Judge Moran said the sentence is to run concurrently to Leamy’s current prison term.
