Typhoon Linglinghas killed at least 11 people, destroyed houses and uprooted trees in central Vietnam today, state media and officials said.
State-run Vietnam television said nine people died in the central province of Phu Yen after the typhoon made a landfall. It gave no details of the deaths.
Disaster officials said a 16-year-old boy was electrocuted in Quang Ngai province after the storm tore through power lines, and a three-year old child was killed in a collapsed house.
Forty-one others have been injured in the three provinces.
Meteorologists said Linglingweakened to a tropical low-pressure system after making landfall in central Vietnam overnight, but torrential rain had swollen some rivers to danger levels, prompting the evacuation of hundreds of families.
The storm killed hundreds in the Philippines last week.
