The GAA’s Central Disciplinary Committee have imposed heavy bans on Dublin and Tyrone today for those responsible for the brawls at Healy Park in Omagh earlier this month.
Tyrone’s Michael Magee, Owen Mulligan and Kevin Hughes plus Dublin’s Ciaran Whelan, Kevin Bonner and Alan Brogan were all hit with eight week bans for their actions in the Dublin Allianz National Football League opener on February 5th.
Mulligan and Hughes were actually banned for four and eight weeks for being in breach of Rule 138 and Rule 140 respectively but suspensions will run concurrently. Dublin’s Brian Cullen was suspended for four weeks in accordance of Rule 138.
There were also severe warnings handed out to Tyrone team doctor Seamus Cassidy - after his verbal exchanges with Brogan - and Peadar Andrews who was warned over his future conduct.
Both the Tyrone and Dublin county boards were fined €10,000 and issued with severe warnings as to the future conduct of their teams.
Tyrone's Ryan McMenamin was the only one of all the players charged with offences to be exonerated.
All suspensions under Rule 140 date from the players last game. Suspensions imposed under Rule 138 date from the players last game at Inter-county level, which means the players named will miss the majority of the NFL campaign.
