A Northern Ireland man has been jailed for eight years, three of them suspended, by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin for the robbery of almost £7,000 from the Purty Kitchen pub in Dun Laoghaire. Brian Cavlan (26), of Altmore Drive, Dungannon, pleaded guilty to the robbery of £6,966.40 in cash and 11,000 cigarettes on November 13th last year.

Det Supt Peter Maguire, of the Special Detective Unit, said that two masked and armed men hid in a toilet until the pub closed. They tied up the manager and his assistant and escaped with cash and cigarettes. Gardai later searched premises in Wicklow town and recovered £1,900 and 8,000 cigarettes.
